Voted as one of the best tours to spot jaguars in the Brazilian wild.

The Pantanal in Brazil, known as a top destination in South America, offers incredible opportunities for wildlife viewing that rival even the Galápagos.

This may sound exaggerated, but when you consider the Pantanal’s astounding diversity and abundance of large mammals such as Jaguars, Giant Otters, Brazilian Tapirs, Capybaras, and Giant Anteaters, as well as striking birds like Jabiru Storks, Hyacinth Macaws, and Toco Toucans, it becomes clear that this region is truly a land of giants.

The Pantanal, Brazil

The Pantanal Wetlands, The world's largest wetlands

Covering a vast area of flat floodplain, the Pantanal is the world’s largest freshwater wetland and home to an impressive concentration of four million Paraguayan Caimans, the largest in the world. Among the 404 bird species in the Pantanal, 82 weigh over a pound, making it the most diverse collection of large birds in the world.

In 1967, Brazil made headlines by becoming the only large country to ban all forms of hunting. Over the past 53 years, the country’s wildlife has thrived and become remarkably tolerant of photographers, leading to what is known as the “Brazilian Ecological Miracle.” In 2021, the wildlife in the Pantanal will be more abundant and visible than it has been in the past 12,000 years, creating a true “peaceable kingdom” on Earth.

Within this Jaguar paradise is a smaller section known as Jaguarland, encompassing 250,000 acres, equivalent to only half a percent of the Pantanal National Park. In this area, larger than Costa Rica’s largest national park, international travellers are treated to unparalleled daily sightings of relaxed Jaguars and Giant Otters.

Since 2005, SouthWild has been the first tour company to guarantee sightings of Jaguars and Giant Otters in this prime Jaguar location, aptly named “Jaguarland,” to acknowledge the astonishingly relaxed behaviour of the 80 individual Jaguars observed annually.

The SouthWild Pantanal Lodge and Jaguar Suites floating lodge are strategically located in the most optimal spots within the Pantanal, providing unparalleled opportunities to witness Ocelots, Brazilian Tapirs, Giant Otters, and Jaguars.
